SCATTERING ASHES WITH BEYOND FYRE

ITINERARY FOR THE CEREMONY

  • Beyond Fyre will welcome each family to begin, with drinks after your journey.
Weather permitting, this could be in our beautiful garden with lawns and trees looking out over the rolling countryside.
If the weather is inclement, drink will be served in the anteroom of the Great Room.

  • After drinks, families are invited into the Great Room, a lovely vaulted room pillared with oak and a wide fireplace, a sunny, welcoming space of peace and calm. Our specially devised inclusive ceremony invites guests to reflect on the cycle of life, to give private thanks for the lives that have passed through and left their mark.

  • Families are then invited to spend their own time together privately in one of our sheltered domes looking across the sea. A time for conversations and mutual support.

Here we have the option for a private pastoral family session for anyone that would like extra support.

ASH SCATTERING

From the Domes, guests are conducted one family at a time through the handmade wooden hedgerow gates into our woodland of young cherry, oak and ilex trees for the ash scattering.  The young woodland surrounds a grove of veteran and ancient trees. Veteran trees are hundreds of years old, survivors that have features which are developed only in their very mature stage of life. Ancients are even older, significant in their survival and deep maturity – rare enough to be notable in what they are and have become. All of this is circled with old hedgerows filled with birdsong; glades and cut pathways through the older neighbouring small woodlands are available to walk along. Wildlife abounds around the woodland hedgerows – yellow hammers and cuckoos, owls at dawn and dusk and an array of other wildlife left alone to flourish. They are not disturbed; we are away from them but we can see and hear them from the woodland.  The site faces west, and we regularly post photographs on our site of the stunning sunsets so that you can see from your own home where those you have let go are resting.

If you would prefer a private ceremony we can design an itinerary with you.

  • After the ceremony, guests pass through the hand-made wrought iron gates set in the hedgerow at the edge of the woodland, to our exquisite sail marquee set for tea. The marquee is sheltered in the dappled light of a natural cup in the land, an ancient place of tall old trees overlooking the mediaeval quarry. Under its shade, your reception will take place before you leave. For a morning ceremony, we serve coffee and cake, for an afternoon ceremony a sumptuous high tea and with our evening ceremonies a drinks and buffet dinner is included. .
